Bass-baritone Ao Li (China), participant of the closing concert of the Musical Olympus festival on June 1, has won the hearts of the audience with his artistry and magnificent voice, and became the winner of the Audience Award. He will receive the silver Easter egg handcrafted by the famous jeweler Vladimir Mikhailov, and will have the opportunity to perform at the festival concerts in Switzerland, Germany, and the US.
On June, 1 the concert at the Grand hall of the Shostakovich St Petersburg Academic Philharmonia concluded the XIX International Musical Olympus Festival.
Five thousand people attended this unique for St Petersburg musical festival. On May, 22 - June, 1 the audience got acquainted with the best young musicians in the world. This year, Musical Olympus gathered 35 performers from 18 countries.
On June, 1 the Grand Hall of the Shostakovich St Petersburg Academic Philharmonia hosted the final concert of the International Musical Olympus Festival. Yao-Yu Wu from Taiwan, winner of the International Competition for Young Conductors in Besancon, appeared at the conductor’s podium. The St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra of St Petersburg Philarmonia under his baton performed overture to the operetta ‘Die Fledermaus‘ (The Bat) by J. Strauss.
On May, 30 the Hermitage Theatre will open its doors for the sixth concert of the International Musical Olympus Festival. The Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti, the winner of the Cadaques conducting competition in Barselona, will lead the International Symphony Orchestra ‘Taurida’. The concert will open with the overture to the opera ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ by R. Wagner. Then Chiara Enderle from Switzerland will play the lead part in the cello concerto by А. Dvorak.
On May, 29 the Hermitage Theatre will host the fifth concert of the International Musical Olympus Festival. This concert may be called the French music night. First, the Belgian Eburon Brass Quintet, 1 prize winner at the Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon, will perform the following pieces in its unique vigorous manner: Fanfare pour précéder La Péri by Paul Dukas; brass quintet No. 3, op. 3 & 4 by V. Ewald; Pie Jesu by Gabriel Faure; and L'Arlesienne Suite No.1, Minuet and Farandole, by G. Bizet. Then Alexandre Esperet from France will perform Création 2014 by К. Naegelen, ‘Silence Must Be’ by Thierry de Mey, Création 2014 М. Benigno, ‘Konvulson’ C.Rocailleux, ‘Ceci n'est pas une balle’ by Cie Kahlua.
On May, 28 within the social programme of the XIX International Musical Olympus Festival a concert of classical music was organized for the detainees of the detention facility No.1 Kresty. Young Russian musicians, students of the special musical school-lyceum at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg Conservatory, long-standing partner of the Musical Olympus Foundation, performed at the concert: Andrey Kolesnik (accordion), Aleksander Generalov (trombone), Artur Sayadyan (bayan), Yekaterina Sultanova (violin), and Sophia Kaliyanurova (clarinet). They presented to the audience a short but very impressive programme featuring the works by Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Shchedrin, Rossini, and Piazzolla.
